REFLECTOR Enhancer™ metallic epoxy flooring options are numerous. Options in colours and colour combination are almost limitless. Using a cheap, inferior resin will only result in a dimpled or hazed and blushed floor without a high quality finish.

Our product is built in multiple levels. Depending on the moisture reading from the concrete substrate, the first step after floor preparation is E100-VB5™ epoxy vapour barrier (this step is optional and only necessary if a high reading is registered on the moisture meter or calcium chloride test). If an epoxy vapour barrier is not required then the first coating is a solid coloured epoxy coat such as E100-PT4™ Pigmented Epoxy. This primer coat will take care of concrete off gassing and will provide a smooth and neutrally coloured base coat. After a solid pigmented base coat has been installed, REFLECTOR Enhancer™ is added to either E100-PT1™ standard and fast set epoxy or, to E100-UV1™ crystal clear epoxy. Depending on the desired finish, you will either have one application here or if you require multiple colour combinations, additional coats and highlights will be applied. After the REFLECTOR Enhancer™ step has been completed, an optional but highly recommended protective top coat can be applied.

Your options for a protective urethane include: AUS-V™ Aliphatic Urethane Sealer (a non yellowing, extremely low VOC protective top coating) or AUS-HD™ Heavy Duty Aliphatic Urethane Sealer. Either of these systems are available in a gloss or matte finish. Also, slip rating can be adjusted with the addition of aluminium oxide on the protective top coat.

One might think these floors are expensive, but in fact they are often a significantly more affordable alternative than ceramic tiles,marble, granite, etc. Considering that these floors are seamless, they are also extremely low maintenance and hygienic.

Colouring Options

Concrete and colour have come a long way in the last few years. Integral colouring is no longer the only method for colouring polished concrete floors. After the introduction of integral colours to the concrete flooring market came acid stains. Acid staining brought earthly tones and variegated marbling effects to the world of concrete. More recently, developments in concrete dyes have made possible primary colours to concrete floors. These penetrating dyes have opened up a whole new spectrum of colours and tones to dull, uncoloured concrete flooring.

Concrete dyes don’t have the variegated appearance of an acid stain, but rather are monolithic and uniform in appearance. This uniformity in the hands of an artist makes creating designs, patterns, logos and stencilled images a much more regulated and controlled method to concrete design options. Concrete dyes also work well in touching up and blending acid stains. Colours can be built in layers on top of each other and also be diluted to feather out and blend designs and patterns.

When using acid stains to add colour when polishing concrete flooring, keep in mind that with more exposed aggregate, the less amount of “cream” on the surface of the slab you will have for the acid stain to react. With a decrease in cream, you will have less colouring effect with an acid stain. However, with that being said, there are many cases where this specific look is desired.

Stains are often confused with dyes. The particle size of a dye is hundreds of times smaller than a pigment in a water based stain. Because of this physical difference, solvent based dyes penetrate deeper than the mentioned water based stain. At this time, there is not a water-based stain that works long term when used directly on polished concrete floors. These water based stains most commonly use acrylic as the carrier and quickly experience fading and walk off.

Elite Crete Australia offers HYDRA-STONE™ Dye Stain to the concrete polishing and concrete overlay market. HYDRA-STONETM is a solvent based dye that comes in 20 standard colours. These colours can be further diluted to create any possible colour with the use of HYDRA-
STONE™ Reducer. The solvent carrier in HYDRA-STONE™ allows the dye to penetrate for longer than acetone based concrete dyes. Dry colour packs are also available.

Tuscan trowel, also known as a slate trowel down or skip trowel are a popular concrete overlay and concrete restoration technique that are used with Elite Crete System’s, THIN-FINISH™ and MICRO-FINISH overlays.

These applications can give the appearance of weathered stone, slate or ceramic tile. Due to the slip resistance associated with these textured  finishes they are commonly used in wet areas, such as pool decks, driveways, walkways or any outdoor surface that is exposed to the elements. The Tuscan trowel finish is also a popular interior and exterior flooring system. Designs can easily be created with fibre tape or stencils, simulating large or small tiles, stone, marble or any unique and authentic image or pattern at a fraction of the cost.

Trowel down applications are a great concrete restoration application. Repairing and hiding cracked, pitted, stained, delaminated and weathered concrete surfaces is one of the most common uses of this technique. Rather then pouring a new slab, a THIN-FINISH™ trowel down may be the simple solution for restoring your old or damaged concrete slab and acquire a textured concrete brand new look.

The rapid cure times of polyaspartic ester coatings allows for floors to be returned to service and opened to traffic in less than a day. Elite Crete System’s CPR 1000™, THIN-FINISH™ and TEXTURE-PAVE™ hybrid concrete restoration systems can be used for repairing spalling, pitted, deteriorated, stained, ghastly or poorly finished concrete that may otherwise need to be torn out and replaced.

Most common concrete repair or concrete restoration applications require .8mm to 6.35mm thick concrete overlays, however thicker applications are also available. Do not be fooled by manufacturers that lay claim to waterborne stains that provide a durable and everlasting solution to colouring a conventional concrete floor or surface. A waterborne stain that is durable enough to be used directly on concrete without a polymer modified overlay system simply does not yet exist. If a stain creates a film, it can be with relative ease scratched or peeled. Basically, in laymen’s terms, a waterborne concrete stain used directly on concrete is nothing much more than a paint, and as we all have seen, painted concrete floors do not hold well to foot or vehicle traffic. Until the technology exist, Elite Crete Australia will never recommend the use of waterborne stains to be used directly on conventional concrete.

CHEM-STONE™ Reactive Stain is a permanent concrete stain that chemically reacts with concrete and polymer modified concrete overlays. Available in 8 standard colours. Each colour produces natural looking colour variations that are unique from one concrete floor or surface to the next.

The most simple and economical method of recreating and placing a logo, image or graphic design in concrete is through the use of perforated vinyl printouts that have been computer generated. Translucent Concrete Staining Products

An acid stain is solution used to stain concrete and create decorative concrete finishes that transform plain grey concrete into a multitude of variegated, mottled, translucent and authentic appearing concrete designs and finishes.

The concrete mix design and chemical properties of the concrete slab makes each and every application unique, be it a textured floor or a previously coloured concrete slab. This is where the true beauty of concrete staining lies.

Acid stains are not a paint coating, or film forming agent but rather are a penetrating, translucent colouring medium used to stain concrete with an effect that resembles that of natural materials. Unlike acrylic concrete stains, an acid stain will not quickly fade, flake, peel or delaminate. The chemical reaction is created from a combination of acidic solutions and metallic salts that when applied to the concrete surface will react with the free lime content of the concrete slab and will leave a permanent and unique surface that can vibrantly colour and transform concrete bring its own exclusive appeal.

There are numerous design techniques and effects that are possible with acid stains. To make for a more controlled application, Elite Crete Australia recommends using one of their concrete overlay systems; THIN-FINISH™, TEXTURE-PAVE™ or MICRO-FINISH™, all of which can be integrally coloured and will produce a broader spectrum of colours, effects and patterns. Applying multiple coloured stains on textured and stamped concrete brings to realization the endless colouring possibilities. Acid stains do not have to be used as a stand-alone concrete colouring product, Elite Crete Systems concrete dyes can be used to go along with it to make matching and blending designer floors easier than ever before.

Bare in mind that you cannot always stain concrete. Some surface contaminates will shield the surface from accepting the staining process. Also, concrete surfaces that have been over exposed to hostile climate and traffic abuse will not produce the full effects of an acid stain and are recommended to be repaired and coated with an Elite Crete Systems polymer modified cementations concrete overlays when and where possible.

CHEM-STONE™ Reactive Stain is Elite Crete Systems penetrating, concrete stain. Unlike many manufactures, Elite Crete Australia does not sell a watered down acid stain but rather a concentrated stain that allows the end user a wider colour palette that is also cost effective.
